REPORTS TO: Head of School
DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: Janitorial Staff
STATUS: Salary, 40 hours/week, 12 months
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Facilities oversees the planning, maintenance, safety, and daily operations of all school buildings, grounds, and mechanical systems. This position manages the facilities team, coordinates campus projects, and ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment that supports the school's academic mission. This position will play a critical role in partnering with the Department Chairs, Director of Finance, Head of School and other Administration.
Lead safety drills and update emergency plans in coordination with school leadership
Develop and execute preventative maintenance plans for all systems and equipment
Ensure timely inspections, repairs, and servicing of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
Maintain inventory, equipment, tools, and supplies
Plan and manage renovations, capital projects, and campus improvements
Coordinate with contractors, engineers, inspectors, and vendors
Review contracts, negotiate pricing, and ensure quality execution of all third-party services.
Develop and manage the annual facilities budget
Track expenses, evaluate cost-saving opportunities, and manage purchasing
Collaborate with leadership on long-term facility planning and capital expenditures
Provide logistical support for school events, activities, and daily operations
Ensure setup, breakdown, and facility readiness for school functions
Participate in any accreditation process for the school
Attend all staff meetings and staff retreats
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, not required
Experience:
Experience in independent schools, with a strong background in Facilities
5+ years of facility management or maintenance leadership experience,
Working in independent schools-a plus
Experience supervising staff and managing vendors
Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems
Strong project management and budgeting skills
Must hold a Boiler Operator’s Permit, obtain within 90 days of employment
Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed
Exceptionally capable in both written and oral communication
Bilingual-a plus
Excellent organizational skills
Technologically savvy
Proven success at working collaboratively
