Summary of Position: | Perform skilled trades work in installing, inspecting, maintaining, and diagnosing electrical wiring, equipment and/or devices of any voltage as required to maintain the function and operation of the University.

Required Work Experience: | No Minimum years of experience required other than that required to obtain a Journeyman’s electrical license.
However, work experience must include commercial and/or industrial and high voltage and controls. | |

State of Michigan Journeyman Electrical License. | |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: | Estimate material requirements for assigned work. Operates university motorized vehicles in a safe manner while performing job duties. Install, inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair all electrical wiring, equipment and apparatus used for all signaling systems and circuits, such as fire alarms, security alarms, time systems, bell systems, etc., as allowed by law. (Telephone communications systems excluded.)
Install, inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair all electrical wiring, equipment and apparatus used for the distribution and utilization of electrical energy for power and lighting of both permanent and temporary circuits and systems of appropriate required voltage.
Install, inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair all electrical wiring, equipment and apparatus used for the production, distribution, and utilization of electrical energy for all emergency and standby systems and circuits.
Maintain assigned tools, keep equipment and mechanical space in a neat, organized, and clean non-hazardous environment.
May be required to secure required electrical permits
Prepare records and reports as assigned.
Provide emergency shutdown and passenger evacuation from all elevators as provided by law.
Stock, maintain and operate a service vehicle in a neat, organized and safe manner.
Maintain safety and security of equipment, vehicles, keys, tools, materials, and inventories.
Maintain safety, health, and quality standards in all duties and responsibilities.
Report to immediate supervisor.
Train and oversee the work of other employees in the performance of the characteristic duties.
Carry out these responsibilities in accordance with University policies and applicable laws.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives.

Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: | Assist in or perform work on other mechanical systems as needed.

Skills and Abilities: | Communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty and visitors.
Ability to climb 100’ light pole.
Direct and train others in the performance of the characteristic duties.
Erect and work from ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, light poles, bucket trucks, etc.
Keep and maintain accurate records.
Maintain University standards of good workmanship in both quality and quantity.
Perform mathematical computations with a high degree of accuracy.
Perform skilled work in all electrical-related duties.
Read, understand, interpret, and follow blue prints, sketches, schematics, specifications, directions, safety labels, equipment operations manuals, etc.
Understand and know methods, codes and regulations, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
Understand, use good judgment, and follow procedures established through safety training and the Facilities Management safety manual.
Work harmoniously with and direct others in situations of variable temperatures, occasional noise, stressful workloads, and in inclement weather environments.
Work independently.
Work with least amount of inconvenience to all people involved.
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. | |
