The incumbent performs a variety of technical duties in the inspection, review, constructability, plans/specification examination and field coordination for building construction projects. This includes (1) interpretation of contract document requirements for constructability, (2) utilizing various inspection techniques, (3) understanding various testing procedures, (4) field coordination of construction projects. Responsibilities include conducting job conferences, resolving construction and materials problems with builders, and providing basic inspection of buildings and related systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing and general construction tasks) during construction process.
Inspects construction and project work sites to assure compliance with drawings, specifications, codes and safety regulations. Reads and interprets floor plans, specifications, and shop drawings. Ensures that construction is in conformance with approved construction codes, plans and specifications. Communicates irregularities found at construction and project work sites to Project Manager and/or Director. Prepares daily written reports documenting the progress and status of projects including records of labor, material and equipment used. Monitors project costs, change orders requests, and schedules and provides status reports to the Project Manager. 55%
Assist Project Manager(s) by providing quality assurance coordination with punch lists, inspections, bond inspections, and job conferences. Initiate, maintain, and follow-up with forms, documents, and submittals to and from contractors, professionals, and University/PASSHE departments, including insurance certificates, steel certifications, material test reports, operating certificates, inspection reports, schedules, application for payments, and other project related documents. Verify schedule of values cost amount submissions, work status, accuracy of such documents and report to the Project Manager. Provides campus utility locations and RFID system tagging, layout and utility type RFID programming and setup. 30%
Assist the PM and/or Director in investigation and evaluation of spaces and locations submitted by campus constituency as project requests. 5%
Attend design, pre-bid, bid, pre-construction and job conferences to discuss documentation, project status and requirements. Assist departmental staff with project documentation requirements and may direct, coordinate and lead at Director’s request, staff and contractors to fulfill these project requirements. 5%

Three years of progressively responsible experience as a carpenter, mason, bricklayer, roofer-tinsmith, or structural iron worker which included one year of experience in the inspection of building construction and equipment installation, and an associate’s degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural Engineering Technology, or closely related field; Or
Two years of progressively responsible experience in the inspection of commercial construction and/or major renovation work, which required reading and interpreting of plans and specifications involving structurers and equipment installation, and an associate’s degree Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural Engineering Technology, or closely related field; Or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
