NFPA Global Solutions has an immediate opportunity in our fast-paced, growing Field Evaluations team for an Electrical Field Engineer based in the following locations: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Charlotte/Raleigh, Central Florida and Pittsburgh areas. This team member will join our brand-new U.S. Field Evaluations team and to provide services to clients throughout North America. As a one-time evaluation program, NFPA Global Solutions’ services help manufacturers get their products into the North American market when certification is not a viable option yet proof of compliance to standards/codes is still needed for AHJ approval.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform technical evaluations of non-certified equipment according to specified standards (or in combination with other applicable requirements). Ensures product meets technical requirements and is free of potential for fire and shock hazards. Decisions are based on field evaluations and testing under the Field Evaluation program.? Technically competent to evaluate all products, including new and unique products, with assistance of other technical staff as necessary.
Communicate with clients in a professional manner to schedule inspection appointments, review costing procedures, answer questions, and provide engineering review service and direction based on the scope of the Field Evaluation program. Reviews submitted technical drawings for prior to evaluation date.
Document, with sufficient detail, technical reports for required alterations to sub-standard equipment. Reviews details of corrective action with client.
Conduct research on technical and procedural issues, including?technical research on standards, field evaluations guidelines.? Collaborates with Engineering and sales colleagues with respect to procedural issues, interpretation and past practices.
This position is home office based (completely remote) but with frequent travel to customer locations throughout North America and possibly other countries.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related Sciences with 3 years industry experience; or
Engineering Technology or associate’s degree with 5 years industry related experience; or
Electrician at the master level with 5 years industry related experience; or related technical field with 7+ years industry related experience.
Experience:
Certification / Lab Testing experience preferred.
Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, as well as general laboratory procedures.
Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian based electrical standards and ability to apply these standards to local installation requirements and/or codes (eg. NEC, CEC, NFPA 790 & 791, SPE-1000 and hazardous locations standards)
NEC, NFPA, IEEE and UL standards
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills; self-starter and independent; good decision-making skills and organizational skills.
Technically competent to evaluate all products, including new and unique products, with assistance of other technical staff as necessary.
Ability to manage multiple inspection files and changing schedules and deadlines with supervision.
Ability to use calibrated measurement instruments, high voltage test equipment, hand tools.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test data.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Strong conflict resolution skills to be able to handle difficult situations and customers.
The ability to utilize the complete office suite from Microsoft.
This position requires frequent travel with the ability to carry up to 50 lbs of test equipment in a rolling case. Candidate would be physically required to travel with this case in rental cars, buses, trains and other public transport. Candidate will need to have a US passport or the ability to obtain one.
Travel: Ability to travel as needed and/or with short notice (up to 75% travel).
