Overview
The Security Systems Specialist is responsible for the management of, and technical support for, facility security systems used for access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance. Reporting to the Head of Site Protection, the Security Systems Specialist coordinates activities between Site Protection and Facilities and Site Services (F&SS) for the operation and maintenance of all electronic systems associated with physical security at a Department of Energy National Laboratory. Systems include: Physical Access Control System (PACS) to include area access management, visitor management systems, hardware and software installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and report generation; intrusion detection and alarms hardware and associated software; and Video Assessment and Surveillance Systems (VASS) installation, configuration, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities
Core Duties:
Works independently and in close collaborations with F&SS points of contact as the primary system owner of facility security systems.
Physical Access Control System (PACS) to include area access management, visitor management systems, hardware and software installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, and report creation/generation. Duties will also include installation/upgrade/maintenance of PACS card readers: equipment identification and procurement; new wire runs (as required); installation; associated programming; and performance testing.
Intrusion detection/door alarm installation, configuration, maintenance, performance testing, and troubleshooting of hardware and software.
Video Assessment and Surveillance System (VASS) installation, configuration, maintenance, performance testing, and troubleshooting of hardware and software.
Coordinate and prioritize work orders related to security systems, and document activity in associated work control system.
Responsible for the identification, procurement initiation, and receipt of materials required for installation and maintenance of responsible systems.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and performance testing on PACS, VASS, and related systems.
Represent the Laboratory as the Subject Matter Expert to security systems equipment vendors.
Coordinate activities of subcontractors as required.
Provide on-site training to users, as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Two-year (2) degree in a related technical field or related work experience required; Four-year (4) degree or related work experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of Access Control, VASS, and networking.
Basic understanding and ability to analyze system drawings, electrical drawings, and schematics.
Basic understanding of electrical installation and troubleshooting practices and requirements.
Proficient in software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
Industry product knowledge desired (Avigilon Systems, RS2 Technologies, AccessIT, and EasyLobby).
Basic understanding of network infrastructure, addressing, and network communication systems.
Sound understanding of maintenance, troubleshooting, and service procedures.
Demonstrated ability to manage technical subcontractors.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to collaborate with PPPL teammates within ES&H and other organizations to complete work scope.
Strong verbal and written communication skills including, but not limited to the ability to relate technical terminology to customers, to listen effectively, and to solicit input from others.
Familiarity with DOE O 473.1A Physical Protection Program and DOE O 470.4B Safeguards and Security Program desired but not required.
Certificates and Licenses:
Avigilon ACC Administrator and Video Analytics Certified - Desired.
Access IT! Integrator Certified - Desired.
EasyLobby SVM Certified - Desired.
Physical Requirements:
