Job Description:
The Facilities Planning and Management department is seeking qualified candidates for an Electrician I role. Under direct supervision, applies knowledge, skills and abilities at the journey level to troubleshoot, install, and repair electrical systems and equipment (generally less than 600V).
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
⢠Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electrical systems and electrical operated equipment (generally less than 600V), including but not limited to circuit breakers, relays, switches, wiring, conduit, receptacles, and magnetic starters and controls. ⢠Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electrical equipment, including but not limited to electric motors, transformers, generators, lights, fixtures, bulbs, tubes, motor control systems and meters. ⢠Draws layouts, reads and interprets blueprints, schematics and other drawings. ⢠As required, estimates materials needed and records time and materials expended on each work order. ⢠Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and systems. ⢠Requires the knowledge of and ability to interpret local, state and national electrical codes. ⢠Requires the ability to interpret instructions, design specifications and blueprints. ⢠Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
⢠Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in the electrical trade. ⢠Knowledge of the tools and equipment of the electrical trade and skill in their safe use. ⢠Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. ⢠Knowledge of safety precautions mandated by OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and the EPA. ⢠Knowledge of and ability to interpret local, state and national electrical codes. ⢠Ability to interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints. ⢠Ability to plan and perform work involving the installation, modification, troubleshooting and repair of new and existing electrical systems, and related equipment. ⢠Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. ⢠Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions or in areas where there is exposure to excessive noise, dirt and fumes and at elevated heights from ladders, scaffolds, or hydraulic lifts. ⢠Ability to work independently during normal work hours and after hours.
