Summary of Position: | Temporary part-time position to maintain labs and equipment for the Plastics Program. It is estimated that this person will work 10-12 hours per week until a full-time Laboratory Facilities Coordinator can be hired. Maintain in operating condition, all equipment for the Plastics and Rubber Engineering Department, test equipment and keep appropriate records and files. Coordinate the placement and installation of new equipment. The anticipated start date for this position is October of 2022. | |

Required Education: | Journeyman (or equivalent experience) in a related field or advanced skills relating to equipment used in the Plastics and Rubber Technology Program, such as industrial machinery and pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, electrical, programmable logic controllers (PLC) and mechanical systems. | |
Required Work Experience: | Five years experience working with related equipment. | |

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: | Associates degree or specialized training in a related field such as electronics, hydraulics, mechanical or facilities engineering. Current certification or completion of forklift certification. | |
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: | Perform the setup, maintenance, and preparation for removal of or installation of all machines and auxiliary equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment. Assist and/or instruct faculty and staff in the proper operation of equipment, including the certification of students to properly drive a forklift. Analyze and troubleshoot all equipment problems. Repair and maintain machines according to ASTM standards. Serve as University liaison with outside repair technicians. Coordinate the movement of, and/or move as required, any or all equipment, reconnect and ensure all machines are in proper working order and on schedule. Manage the inventory of material, equipment, tools and supplies. Maintain and update records and computer files and software for all area of responsibility. Reports directly to the Plastics and Rubber Engineering Technology Department Head. Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: | Contact technical representatives and salesmen as necessary. | |
Skills and Abilities: | Ability to read and interpret diagrams, schematics, blueprints and electronic circuitry. Operate, utilize a variety of hand-tools, machinery and equipment including lathes, grinders, electrical testing devices, etc. Analyze and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to include the ability to train students to operate a forklift. Safely operate all machinery within area of responsibility. Maintain accurate and complete records. Use a personal computer and software programs as required. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. | |
