This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Superintendent Library Buildings and Grounds, Elevator Section. The position primarily works on hydraulic or cable elevators. The selectee will also perform a variety of Elevator Mechanic and electronic functions in connection with the inspection, upkeep, modification and repair of elevators, lifts, escalators, and other industrial apparatuses.
TOUR OF DUTY: DAY - Monday through Friday, 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm. ?
*** The mechanic is designated as "Emergency / Essential" and will be required to report to work during emergencies and inclement weather conditions. ***
Experience with high-speed elevators is highly desired but not required.
The mechanic will perform a variety of Elevator Mechanic and electronic functions in connection with the inspection, upkeep, modification and repair of elevators, lifts, escalators, and other industrial apparatuses. Duties quoted at WG-12.
MAJOR DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Performs complex mechanical and electronic duties including working with magnetic amplifiers, variable voltage regulators, and computer units that interrelate with a variety of operation and control circuits, multi-voltage elevator systems to adjust the resistance or capacitance to increase or decrease power capacity and rate of flow within predetermined limits. This requires a working knowledge of Central Processing Units, Pulse Drives, digital velocity encoders, triacs, digital drives, operating AMPs, bridge rectifiers, closed loop operators, Eproms, Voice Annunciation, modems, and digital phones. Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs complex electronic equipment to maintain a complete operational system.
- Must clean and maintain all elevator equipment. Applies advanced knowledge in troubleshooting and adjusting elevators with complex dispatching, high-speed circuitry and advanced electronic leveling requiring the use of service tools, electrical prints, trouble shooting manuals and computers to obtain a greater accuracy in elevator control.
- Utilizes advanced knowledge in analyzing and adjusting elevator controls and drive systems in elevators. Adjusts and programs dispatching and scheduling up peak and down peak times for faster and more reliable service and decreased wait times.
- Applies advanced knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems and be able to troubleshoot and adjust integrated systems and related electronic circuitry involved in intelligent motion control systems. Programs and adjusts security features, fire protection and digital telecommunication systems. Must be able to utilize computer based diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting.
- Applies advanced knowledge of hydraulic system theory and be able to adjust valve operation for optimum performance, ride quality and longevity of motors, valves and related equipment. Properly inspect a hydraulic cylinder for leaks and repack cylinder head if necessary. Make repairs to cylinder pitting due to electrolysis and scratches, by honing and repacking the cylinder. Change out faulty Pumps, Motors, Valves, Seals, Bearings, Belts and worn Pulleys. Perform a full load static pressure test for advanced leak detection.
- Performs PM and service repair work on escalator main drive assemblies, adjusting and repairing step chains, tracks, step treads, comb plates, hand rails, drive sprockets, wheels, tensioning devices and safety features. Adjust escalators, brakes and handrails to code compliant standards.
- Applies expert knowledge in adjusting, troubleshooting and programing the following MCE, Courion and GAL systems, VVMC, 1000 VVC 2 G DF drive, IMC Performa, Digital 12 pulse drives, IMC SCR drives, IMC AC drives, HMC 1000 drives and I control drives. Courion Model MP Door controller system. Gal Closed loop door operator system.
- Must display extensive knowledge in adjusting and troubleshooting Gal closed loop door operators using a service-tool. Adjusts load weighing sensors, preventing rollback and oscillation. Must adjust and calibrate motor and brake drive parameters, calibrate floor offset adjustments, set absolute floor encoding for position encoders to obtain optimum performance, leveling control and overall ride quality to decrease wait times.
- Conducts independent annual and 5 year inspection testing according to safety code for elevators and escalators under the direction of a QEI certified Elevator Inspector and makes any repairs deemed necessary.
