The Inspector, Fire/Safety Level I position is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of the University's fire and life safety equipment in University owned buildings as required by applicable local regulations, New York State fire and building codes, and National Fire Protection Association. The position is responsible to perform and meet recommendations from the University's Property Insurance Carrier, FM Global.
The Inspector, Fire/Safety Level I position responds and performs critical functions at emergency incidents such as fires, fire alarms, auto accidents, hazardous spills, injuries, and property damage calls. The position is responsible for enforcement related to the life safety annual inspection of campus buildings by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control to ensure that life safety violations identified are abated in a timely manner.
The position is also responsible to assist with the occupational safety of University employees by providing training and enforcement related to specific OSHA standards such as fall protection, confined space, forklift safety, ergonomics, and lock out/tag out electrical safety.
