To work in the Electrical Shop of the Facilities Department
Have a basic understanding of the various trades within the Facilities Department.
Will be working under and learning from a licensed electrician
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Become familiar with campus locations and establish a knowledge base of all University buildings and their related interior and exterior building systems.
Assist in the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical systems and components
Perform preventive maintenance, and assist in the repair and replacement of generators, motors, blowers, pumps, oil burners, and other electrically powered or controlled equipment
Assist in the diagnoses and repair of heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems and controls.
Service and repair fire alarm systems, security alarms, etc.
Monitor operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems equipment to insure safe and efficient operation.
This position is considered "essential personnel", and employee may be assigned work in other areas during emergency situations.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with other Facilities team members in a professional, supportive, and courteous manner in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
Work and prepare work using acceptable/standard methods, tools, equipment, and practices related to facilities and maintenance activities.
Assist other trades, as required.
May be required to perform duties such as custodial, demolition, distribution, grounds, or snow removal during emergency or critical situations as may be directed by Management.
This position is subject to outside work where extreme cold and hot temperatures may be encountered. The potential exists where noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions might also be encountered. Use of protective equipment is required. The General Maintenance person must be especially aware of any impact of safety and security.
High school diploma or GED required.
Must have a minimum of two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
Must have working knowledge of building systems and repair.
Must be able to work overtime when and if required.
Must have good communications skills to interact with students, faculty and staff members.
Have the ability to be a self starter and the capability to work independently.
Must be able to lift and carry 80 pounds.
This position involves traveling throughout the University and will require sufficient strength and physical dexterity for bending, reaching, ascending and descending ladders and stairs, working on staging, man lifts, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pushing-pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, and hearing.
More experienced electricians are welcome to apply
LICENSES, TOOL, AND EQUIPMENT:
Valid driver's license required.
Enrollment in an Electrical Apprentice Program or completion of Associates Degree in Electrical Technology is desired with the expectation that progress towards Journeyman's license will be pursued.
Must have reliable telephone service that allows Management or Security the ability to contact you.
Must have a working knowledge to safely operate hand and power tools.
