Preventative Maintenance Trades Specialist I - Facilities & Services 16042
The Facilities Management unit of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a Preventative Maintenance Trades Specialist I position. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or lead trades worker, the duties of this position require the individual to perform a variety of tasks related to preventative/predictive maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. These duties include, but are not limited to, inspecting pumps, inspecting valves, changing filters, lubricating bearings, changing oil, maintaining lubricant levels, inspecting motors, inspecting and changing drive belts, and documenting findings.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Performs preventative/predictive maintenance on equipment such a s but not limited to, air handling equipment, fan coils, and associated cooling equipment pumps, motors, electrical panels, in buildings per an established maintenance schedule to include filter changes, lubrication, replacement of belts, inspections, etc.
Required to operate and test generators to ensure safe and reliable operation during power outages. Required to complete preventive maintenance of generators such as oil changes, a fuel and oil filter changes, belts, hoses, etc.
When appropriate, individual will coordinate work and needs with building Supervisor, Facilities Management Supervisors, Unit 35, and other personnel as may be required by the situation.
Will be required to collect data to be entered into the TMA work order system.
Ensures that work areas, shop, and storage areas are clean and neatly maintained.
Operates electrical testing equipment and a variety of power tools such as drills, saws, pumps, pipe threaders, etc.
Will maintain safe standards and working conditions following all state, local, and federal requirements. Will be responsible for calling out support personnel when conditions warrant. This will include repair of equipment as well as safety issues.
Documents all activities in TMA and initiates corrective work requests for failed PM's. Shall develop and prepare logs with necessary data as may be required by the Supervisor or emergency personnel.
May be involved in repairs to electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and carpentry, as the situation requires. Also, may be required to assist other shop personnel with emergency repairs when necessary.
Required to perform general maintenance duties and responsibilities as necessary and to assist other trades with electrical connections, lighting, sheet metal fabrication, painting, carpentry, plumbing, millwright work, etc.
Will be required to move, load, and carry all materials and equipment necessary to complete all phases of assigned maintenance and construction projects. May be required to move any materials and equipment that interfere with the flow of the project. When project is completed, work site must be left in a clean and orderly fashion.
Assists Supervisor in development of preventive maintenance programs.
Operates man lifts or aerial lifts as may be required.

High school diploma and vocational training of up to 18 months beyond high school within the maintenance field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least two (2) years of experience in four or more of the following listed skilled trades: electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and building maintenance.
Working in tight areas in extreme temperatures and conditions daily.
