The Electrician position performs skilled journeyman level electrical work for the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of institution facilities and equipment. Diagnoses, tests, repairs and installs electrical outlets, switches, lights, lighting circuits, power circuits, circuit breakers, electrical thermostats, rectifier units, small motors, transformers, and other miscellaneous electrical devices, systems and apparatus. Operates all types of electrical test equipment used by the electrical trade. Rhode Island Journeyman Electrician's license. Two years' related work experience. Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics. Thorough knowledge of electrician duties and the ability to apply same skillfully. Must possess their own hand tools (see shop list). Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. High school education or equivalent/trade school preferred. Ability to work without restrictions for eight hour shift. Ability to work from lifts at heights of one hundred feet. Ability to work in areas needing self contained breathing apparatus or respirator. This position is considered essential. Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift. Major Responsibilities:  Diagnoses, troubleshoots, tests, repairs and installs electrical outlets, switches, lights, lighting circuits, power circuits, circuit breakers, electrical thermostats, rectifier units, small motors, transformers, and other miscellaneous electrical devices, systems and apparatus. - Operates all types of electrical test equipment used by the electrical trade. - Inspects electrical systems and equipment to detect and correct faculty components or parts. - Diagnoses, troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and installs electronic equipment and systems including fire alarms, emergency lighting units and automated lighting systems. - Operates all types of hand and power tools used by the electrical trade. - Determines material requirements, the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments. - Maintains clean work area and/or cleans job site upon completion of assignment. - Observes safety rules and precautions. - Performs related duties as required. Education and Experience: - Ability to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics. - Thorough knowledge of electrician duties and the ability to apply same skillfully. - Must possess their own hand tools. - Ability to work without restrictions for eight hour shift. - Ability to use electronic devices such as iPhone, iPad, and other job related software applications. - Ability to operate and work from lifts at heights of one hundred feet. - Ability to work in areas needing self contained breathing apparatus or respirator. - Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. - High school education or equivalent/trade school preferred. - Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
