MECHANICAL DESIGNER/ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION LEAD , Laboratory for Nuclear Science - Bates Research and Engineering Center , to join a team designing, building, and testing complex assemblies used in various areas of physics research. Will be responsible for mechanical and electrical design of systems using SolidWorks CAD software; produce parts and assemblies, detail fabrication drawings, and BOMS; and design and layout electrical infrastructure and cabling for experiments. Responsibilities include designing and modeling parts and assemblies based on engineering and physicist input; assembling and testing components and systems for experiments; producing mechanical drawings per ASME Y14.5 geometric tolerancing; providing input, analysis, and solutions into electrical components of various design; using PDM Standard to access shared vault with other designers and engineers; working with all levels of project staff, including faculty, scientists, engineers, technicians, and students; collaborating with national and international labs and facilities; researching, contacting, and selecting outside contractors/vendors following MIT procedures; and designing and supervising power distribution and installation for experimental research equipment. May supervise union and other licensed personnel during installations.
REQUIRED : current Massachusetts' master electrician license; ten years' experience designing and installing complex high power AC and DC installations in an industrial/research environment; SolidWorks certification; extensive SolidWorks 3D CAD experience at the designer level; experience with the design of systems similar to that used in physics and semiconductor industry including high voltage, cryogenic, vacuum, gas and fluid control, and electrical infrastructure; detailed knowledge of NFPA 70 and 70E; experience with design of weldments, machined parts, and complex assemblies; hands-on experience assembling complex experimental equipment; ability to work independently, problem-solve, adapt to changing priorities, and quickly turn-around design changes.
