Job Description The Injection Molding Technician will be based in Manchester, CT. Our Manchester facility focuses on the design and manufacture of plastic injection molds for use in manufacturing injection molded parts for medical devices and other high-reliability products. The Injection Molding Technician performs molding machine startups and corrects non-conformances using scientific molding and root-cause analysis techniques. Additionally, the Injection Molding Process Technician installs, removes, and troubleshoots complex plastic injection molds using various tools in a safe and efficient manner. Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do… - Provide technical training and direction of molding technicians, material handlers, manufacturing quality inspectors and other Vision Technical Molding employees.
- Coordinate mold sampling and interact with customers to assure successful completion and/or problem resolution.
- Assume responsibility for overall scheduling and work direction in the absence of the Molding Manager.
- Interprets process sheets, work orders, inspection instructions, component drawings, and preventative and corrective maintenance requirements of molding equipment and peripherals.
- Verify that the processes and procedures in practice comply with established Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions within the work environment.
- Maintain work related records in a neat, timely and complete manner.
- Review quality plans, sampling requirements, inspection and test requirements for content accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with Vision Technical Molding and OSHA procedures and guidelines.
- Setup, maintain and operate primary injection molding equipment.
- Setup, maintain and operate auxiliary equipment commonly used in injection molding (i.e. robot pickers, water heaters, conveyors, separators, water chilling systems, bulk resin dispensing equipment, hopper dryers, etc.)
- Maintain shop supplies in a neat and orderly manner and request essential equipment needs in a timely basis as not to interfere with normal production requirements.
- Identify, troubleshoot, record and correct setup documentation, equipment problems, environmental and safety concerns, and nonconforming material.
- Identify and correct nonconforming conditions and implement corrective actions in accordance with Company Policies.
- Apply appropriate process control and statistical techniques to daily work as needed to ensure optimum product quality and productivity.
- Assume the active leadership role in the area of safety in the workplace and use these principals to ensure that the work force is operating in a safe productive manner and give pertinent recommendations related to the appropriate areas.
- Perform other tasks as required or assigned in support the company’s needs, goals and objectives.
Here is some of what you’ll need (required)… - High School Diploma (GED) or equivalent experience
- Advanced courses and training relating to thermoplastic injection molding processing
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Accuracy in working with numbers (math & basic algebra) procedures and forms.
- Thorough working knowledge of the molding process from raw material to finished goods with a thorough understanding of the effects of heat, pressure, and time on the process and end product.
- Ability to process commodity and engineering grade thermoplastic polymers.
- Ability to communicate an understanding of mechanical principals (vacuum, pressure, force, temperature, fluid flow, heat transfer, etc. to employees and customers.
- Capable of performing dimensional inspection utilizing micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, pin gages, ring gages, optical comparator, microscope including toolmakers microscope, surface plates, and comparison and high amplification measurement instruments.
