Posting Summary: Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
We have an opportunity for an Electrician who supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. The incumbent is responsible for response to renovation projects and support to maintenance work orders within the Health System Complex. Electricians provide labor and technical knowledge for installation and maintenance of building components and mechanical systems while providing a safe environment. Electricians perform work of moderate difficulty which involves repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings.
Electricians are not to work on any voltage exceeding 600 volts.
A High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of four years' experience in the electrical field are required. A valid Journeyman or higher Electrical license and valid driver's license, with a positive points balance are required. A Masters Electrical License is preferred. Working knowledge of the design, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and of the National Electric Code is essential. Written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with ability to interpret and work from blueprints is essential. The ability to work nights and weekends on an as needed basis during emergencies, as well as work an adjusted schedule as needed to meet deadlines is also required. Experience working in a medical center or hospital setting is highly desirable.
