Intermountain Rural Electric Association is currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill our Safety Inspector position in our Sedalia location. With over 151,000 customers, Intermountain Rural Electric Association is one of the largest member-owned electric utility cooperatives in the United States.
The primary duties of this position are to ensure the Association’s safety policies and procedures are implemented and followed throughout the organization, with a specific focus on system operations. The responsibilities of this position are system wide with an emphasis on the development, implementation and communication of the Association’s safety policies and procedures with respect to field/operations job duties and requirements.
The Safety Inspector will report to the Safety Program Coordinator and support them in implementing programs and procedures necessary to meet the Association’s safety compliance requirements by performing field safety inspections, safety audits and training, and accident investigations (including reporting). The Safety Inspector will also monitor contractor safety compliance and conduct training for contractors as required. The Safety Inspector will serve as Chairperson of the Safety Committee and conduct each Safety Committee meeting.
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. A 9/80 shift is optional for this position.
This job requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This position will require extensive presence in field operating environments. The ability to communicate safety policies and practices directly with operations personnel is required. Must be able to work independently toward general and specific goals and possess the ability to communicate effectively with senior management and Human Resources as required by safety investigations and audits.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Extensive background in utility operations, with specific knowledge of safety procedures in transmission and distribution operations is required. A journeyman lineman is preferred. Knowledge of occupational and industrial safety would be desirable.
