The Renewable Energy and Distributed Resource Analyst is a combination field and office position that is designed to support CoServ’s renewable energy, demand response, storage, and other distributed resource initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Energy Engineering, the analyst will also support CoServ’s overall electric rate and tariff design. The initial expectation is that this position will involve approximately 60% office work and 40% field work. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills coupled with solid business experience.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Develops project economics and evaluates business cases for potential CoServ investments in renewables and storage, including:
CoServ-owned solar facilities
CoServ-owned storage facilities
CoServ power purchase agreements (PPAs) for solar, wind, or storage
Evaluates business case and helps implement potential new demand response programs, including developing program framework, plans, guidelines, and terms.
Performs analyses to assess and improve performance of CoServ’s existing demand response programs, including Rush Hour Rewards.
Participates in deciding when to trigger CoServ demand response events and conduct post-event performance assessment
Performs analyses to assess and optimize CoServ renewables programs, including residential solar, community solar programs, and utility-scale power purchase agreements.
Helps implement potential new renewables / storage programs, including developing program framework, plans, guidelines, and terms.
Supports business and residential customers by performing reviews of their energy usage and the benefits and drawbacks of potential renewable energy, energy efficiency, or demand response upgrades for individual customers or groups of customers.
Analyzes potential changes in CoServ tariffs and retail rates and identify the impact to CoServ, its Members and rate classes.
Performs other analyses and evaluations as required to support CoServ renewable energy, demand response, storage, and other distributed resource initiatives, as well as rate and tariff design.
Answers Member questions and inquiries pertaining to installation of Member-owned renewable or distributed generation, such as availability of and requirements for CoServ incentives, CoServ tariffs, estimated production, and the impact of the estimated production on energy bills. Develops and maintains knowledge and expertise concerning renewable generation facilities to be able to answer customers’ technical questions.
Meets with Members, distributed and renewable generation contractors, and/or city inspectors as needed to assist in distributed or renewable generation installations.
Performs pre- and post-inspections including installation of bi-directional distributed generation meters and/or solar production meters on all residential Member-owned generation installations.
(With appropriate training) Performs routine photovoltaic (PV) system maintenance and repairs including but not limited to modules, arrays, combiners, batteries, inverters, and DC (600 V)/AC (480 V) gears.
Provides tours of CoServ's community solar site (Solar Station) and the energy education trailer.
Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines. Responsible for reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Responsible for reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities
Attends public and private meetings and events as a representative of CoServ before, during, and after working hours. These events and meetings may include but are not limited to community events, school events and exhibits, energy management events or conferences, electric utility events or conferences, CoServ-sponsored events and other related functions. Participation at such events could include renewable energy or energy efficiency demonstrations or presentations.
Attends professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences as required to monitor and stay informed about industry developments and trends, new technologies, and other issues or decisions which might affect Company’s objectives and policies.
Completes minimum CoServ University training requirements each year.
Maintains appropriate knowledge of CoServ Electric equipment and devices.
Represents CoServ in a professional manner at all times.
Education and Certification Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Science, or another technical discipline.
Education and Certification Preferred
Renewable energy experience in solar, wind, or storage.
Hold, or be working towards NABCEP PV Technical Sales or PV Installation Professional certification
Knowledge of rate making concepts and calculations.
Five (5) or more years of business experience including analytics, technology, engineering, marketing, product development, and/or business development.
Two (2) or more years in electrical power sales, distribution, or related field.

Skills and Abilities Preferred
Ability to perform SQL inquiries using Toad or similar applications.
Skilled in performing complex engineering and technical calculations, and in reading and interpreting technical plans and one-line electrical diagrams.
Familiarity with a wide range of renewable energy equipment, products, and services.
Strong business and financial savvy with the ability to identify both strategic and tactical implications of business directions and initiatives.
Knowledge of National Electric Code.
Working knowledge of customer information systems (CIS).
Ability to work in both in an indoor office environment and in a outdoor field environment.
Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Successful completion of criminal background check required by law (20-year history on felonies and 10-year history on misdemeanors).
Ability to travel, if necessary, for business and training.
