This position is responsible for the following duties: leads and participates in the construction, relocation, maintenance, and repair of primary and secondary distribution lines and the construction/splicing sub terrain primary distribution duct bank distribution lines including sectionalize switches and underground electrical vaults; supervises and participates in constructing secondary service lines to campus-wide buildings; repairs electrical distribution equipment during power failures and makes comprehensive and emergency repairs; performs electrical repair work such as installing, repairing, and maintaining transformers, vaults, and overseeing the repair of live primary lines; requisitions all materials, supplies, equipment, and tools required for completion of assigned tasks; uses voltage monitoring equipment and makes random and specific checks of building power system to verify correct voltage and power supply to; checks and adjusts sensitivity of ground fault system and main disconnect switches at campus service entrance; performs electrical and mechanical repair services on various building electrical systems varying from 12 to 24 volts in control and communications circuits and 120, 208, 277 and 480 volts in lighting and electrical distribution circuits, up through 12,470 volts in the high voltage primary main underground feeder circuits. Duties also include the following: completes repairs to circuit breakers and distribution panel boards by replacing defective components and wiring or tightening or adjusting lugs; repairs metal halide outdoor street and parking lot lighting systems by repairing breaks in direct burial feeders, replacing photoelectric controls and defective light fixtures; completes repairs to minor laboratory equipment such as switches, lights and starters; installs complete laboratory electrical systems either by retrofit or new construction, including main 120/208v feeder circuits, breakers, distribution panels, wire mold, special voltage outlets, lighting fixtures, emergency power outlets and fume hood power supply; installs complete electrical systems for specialized equipment including special transformers, cable troughs, water chillers, power conditioners, and isolation transformers; and installs underground outdoor electrical systems to feed parking lots, streets, safety lighting, recreation area, water pumps, and special purpose outlets. Other responsibilities include performance of a variety of skilled tasks in the electrical trades (i.e., maintenance and operation of emergency power generation equipment, fire alarm system testing, problem diagnosis, and repair). The selected candidate will perform preventive maintenance and complete corrective maintenance work orders as assigned. Physical effort will be expended in the form of extensive walking and lifting heavy objects. Normal work hours will be from 8:00am to 5:00pm; however, temporary adjustments to this routine schedule will be necessary during summer operation. Overtime will be necessary on an as-needed basis including weekend and holiday hours. The selected candidate will be able to respond to emergency call back.
