Job Description Summary:
The Electrical position is part of the Facilities Services team, within the Division of Operations at the George Washington University. Facilities Services is searching for a full-time Electrician to support the Electrical team to effectively investigate and identify electrical problems and develop plans to repair and maintain the electrical systems throughout the University.
More specifically, the Electrician will:
Performs preventive maintenance repairs on electrical systems, lighting systems, and equipment in and around buildings.
Installs wiring, electrical systems, lighting systems in and around buildings, power appliances, electrical machinery, and equipment according to written job orders.
Reports to and answers to emergency call-backs.
Performs other work related duties as requested. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
The Electrician may work around and/or with machine tools that present certain dangers, and all safety precautions must be followed.

Incumbent may work around and/or with machine tools that present certain dangers, and all safety precautions must be followed. The use of protective equipment, such as safety glasses to shield against debris and earplugs to reduce noise may be reequired. You must exercise caution when handling hazardous or toxic materials. The job requires stamina, because you may be required to stand most of the day and, at times, may need to lift moderately heavy workpieces.
Knowledge of safe work practices based on industry standards, injury, and illness prevention practices.
Proficiency with computerized tools and testing equipment programs, as well as, contemporary software packages.
Ability to prepare sketches for minor construction projects.A valid driver's/operator's license.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, see, and climb ladders is highly desired.
Ability to work independently is desired.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience, is necessary plus 1.5 years of relevant experience.
